A Chinese family discovers their grandmother has only a short while left to live and decide to keep her in the dark, scheduling a wedding to gather before she dies. An unconventional way of telling an age-old story that works so well that you forget about its unconventionality as its humanity washes over you. Her wasn't as fantastically profound emotionally as the similarly toned Eternal Sunshine of the Spotless Mind. Her tells the story of Theodore Twombly, a lonely man living in the near, but believable future. When she finally responds to him, she explains that she joined other AIs for an upgrade that takes Jonze's long-time director of photography, Lance Acord, was not available to work on the movie. The movie then springs a stunner of a revelation, requiring a rethink of much of the previous material.
